Re: I need some arguments to sell Iseries instead of windows to serve Lotus Domino

Thanks a lot.

I have added that I series are inmune to virus. At least known virus, so there is no need to spend money and cpu resources in antivirus software to check all system files except perhaps email files.

A windows server spends at least 30 percent of resources scanning what it serves Antivirus software is mandatory in windows

Plenty of flag waving from IBM here:

including details of record-breaking Domino performance:

and why to run Domino on AS400:

Not entirely true. While the iSeries is pretty invulnerable to viruses, the Domino implementation is just another mail server, and the client will open mails and attachments on Windows boxes. So any viruses will just sit inside the mail waiting to be opened by the client, on windows. Hence, you will need to run an mail scanner on the iSeries, or on the client; preferably both (different manufacturer would be nice, e.g. my client runs Sophos on the PC's but ScanMail (TrendMicro) on the iSeries).

And if you want a case for iSeries vs. Windows: Some years back (you may be able to Google on it) IBM AMRO replaced well over 100 Windows boxes by 5 iSeries boxes for world-wide Domino. iSeries is supposed to be an undesired platform within ABN AMRO, but they have plenty of them.

If they really are opposed to iSeries, try and sell'm Linux. Windows is your worst option. Cost of Ownership for iSeries is about 30% of that of Windows, and about 50% of that of Linux (IIRC from a white paper by IDC).
