Thanks Damien. What would be neat would be to see the boot sequence of
events of the i5. Esp compared to the p5. The firmware is code? In
the case of the geared down i5 there might also be config data for the
20% of the system partition that I would guess is created very early in
the boot process.
The firmware contains the code for both the service processor and the
hypervisor. The firmware is the same for an i5 and a p5. The type and
processor limitation is contained in the VPD (Vital Product Data), the
service processor and the hypervisor just read the VPD to know how much
CPU you are allowed to use.
When the hypervisor has finished booting, it can start partitions wich
are constrained, only at that time the microcode starts.
