If a file is not indexed, the key is the Relative Record Number (RRN).
If you chain using record number = 1, this will retrieve the 1st record
in the file.
Us "older" folks used to have to do that a lot in the past before the
days of subfiles and logicals - we had to build our own indexes with
chains through records in data files using the RRN. You have it so
easy these days...
