Have you tried using QM queries as a replacement for Query/400.
I've found the prompted mode of QM to be close enough to Query/400 for
users to handle.

IBM made the original engine work
for SQL, but this approach was not optimal at all times for SQL.
I have no problem with that statement, but there shouldn't have been a
reason to keep Query400 and opnqryf from using the new QM. Query400 is used
*extensively* out here and that's where we need performance enhancements.
Actually, I wouldn't mind a more powerful Query400, say one with an if
statement capability.
Now if some new UI (with an emphasis on USER) query tool were to come out to
replaces Query400 and does take advantage of the new QM, that would pretty
much render my argument moot, as I get what I want and you get what you
want...
