Re: Form Definitions and printing using Gumbo Dicer

Merging AFPDS spooled files isn't impossible. Just impractical. Most merging software takes the first spooled file's attributes and assumes that the rest of the spooled files have the same attributes.

The best way to merge files would be to analyze all the files to be merged and build the appropriate inline form definition to cover the attributes correctly. Then when generating a new spooled file for attributes such as DRAWER or DUPLEX set them to *FORMDF. Of course as the files were merged into one, the data stream would have to be modified to use the form definition and all the little nuances that go with use of resources (library lists) and form definitions.

I want just point out that this figure is much impractical than it could appear. Usually or better very often, a form definition is created by default, and by default with the same name (something like DFTFORMD). When you put multiple inline form definition in the same AFP data stream with the same name then you'll not be able to print it: at least PSF, escapes stating that more than one AFP resource were found with the same name.
