Jan is quite write about the API being technically superior to the
spool file method I proposed but this comes at a cost, which is
complexity. As these APIs can be a little confusing when you first
come across them(or maybe that's just me ;-)

Your post said you were new to iSeries and the job you describe does
not seem to require the performance improvement.

So, I'd check out Jan's solution and if you get the hang of it, it will
be better for you in the long term. But if you need something simpler
to start with, then use the spool file method.
