Re: iSeries programs to update MS SQL Tables

Thanks everyone for the responses.
I will take a look at IBM's white paper.
RJS Software looks like a viable option has well, but it seems our executive
are dazzeled with Microsoft Dynamics, sharepoint, business portal and excel
OLAP cubes. This seems to have caused a delay in purchasing iSeries
Software.

Out of Scope, but does anybody think IBM will be re-hashing a pricing
strategy to keep the iSeries alive or will IBM's focus be more geared
towards Large Enterprises instead of SME. It's seems in our area, a lot of
the iSeries shops have either removed the iSeries or are currently removing
apps 1 by 1. Microsoft has become the must have for SME's in our area for
ERP software.

Thanks All

Jody

Hello Jody,

If you are open to commercial options our RPG2SQL Integrator software
could be just what you are looking for.

RPG2SQL allows RPG programs to read or write any ADO/ODBC data source thus
allowing you to talk to SQL Server, MySQL, Oracle or pretty much any
ADO/ODBC-enabled database.

The product also supports reading and writing to MS Excel spreadsheets
with the RPG2Excel functions.

With the included sample programs you'll be reading and writing SQL data
within minutes of installation.

For more information check out our web site and you can download a FREE
30-day demo or feel free to contact me directly for further discussion.

Hi,

I need the ability to write RPGLE apps and use iSeries SQL to read and
update tables on a Microsoft SQL server. (Possibly MySQL in the future.)
I have a fair amount of experience with OS400 and RPGLE. I guess I am
looking for something similar to and ODBC driver for the iSeries(Don't
know
if there is such a thing). I can write the app in VB using windows ODBC
to
work with the iSeries, but I am the only developer here that is familiar
with VB. I would like to keep the code native to the iSeries if possible.

Any suggestions on approach would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Jody
