Re: Poor performance using QNTC any suggestions

Hello Glenn,

You might want to try changing the duplex setting to *HALF. Believe it or
not, sometimes this improves performance greatly.

If you're open to commercial options, we have written a series of iSeries
commands that run natively that can send/receive files to any Windows/Linux
server running Windows file sharing.

QNTC is NOT required to use these API's. The API's are part of our IFS
Tools product.

For more information, feel free to contact me directly and I can set you up
with a demo version.

Hello,

V5R2

I have a customer who wants to copy save files from a library to a
share on a Windows server. A 650MB save file takes around 5 minutes to
copy.

I'm using the qshell cp command to copy the spool file.

If I want to copy the spool file back I still use the qshell cp command
but it takes a VERY long time. In fact we've canned the job three times
now after an hour running.

When I look at netstat *cnn I notice that the Netbios connection goes
inactive for around 40-45 seconds, copies some data, and the goes
inactive again.

I looked at the job running the copy and it appears that these delays
occur when executing the QSRFEOD system function.

We're running this on a box with no other users, there's plenty of
memory and activity levels but the job is using only 9% CPU.

LAN is 100Mpbs ethernet and the #2838 is set to 100M and *FULL duplex.

If I go to a pc, map a drive to the Windows server and FTP the file
from the mapped drive back to the library it takes around 200 seconds
to copy the 650MB file back.

I've also tried using the OS/400 CPY command rather than qshell's cp,
makes no difference.

The customer doesn't want to use FTP to transfer data as they don't
want the service active on the Windows machine.

Question is, why is netbios so much slower than FTP and is there
anything I can do to speed it up?

Thanks

Glenn
