As Tim said, the two serial numbers will be different from each
other. According to something Cyrille (hp) once said, this is because
the internal s/n is assigned during the manufacturing of the pcb, and
the external s/n is assigned somewhere during the injection-molding
process. The board and plastic case are assembled together sometime
after that - in no apparent order.

I have a calc (somewhere around here) with an internal s/n that is
more than a year older than the outside housing (external) s/n.
