This is an OT question, but I sometimes ask the knowledgeable folks
on this group about other things than HP calculators.
Does anyone know of a program ( preferably Free or cheap) that allows
one to see who is accessing your computer while on the Web.
The recent stink about Microsoft forcibly downloading patches
and updates even when a user has this option turned off, has me a bit
worried.
Other folks could do it too.

Firewalls do this - they can log, and then block, addresses. You might
check out <http://www.grc.com/default.htm>. I only run their web utility
that attempts to scan my computer - it is a good way to make sure I set
my firewall up correctly. I believe they have a free firewall (and one you
can buy). You might ask them if they have anything that can at least alert
you to when something is going on. Just keep in mind, the computer will
go into a degraded operations mode if it can't check in with the mothership
every once in a while.

Another solution is to go back to dialup - it would be pretty obvious when
a large patch is being downloaded....

Thanks for the advice.
As far as " go back to dial up" goes I have never gone anywhere else.
I live out in the sticks and I am lucky to have POTS.
I literarily live in the middle of the 100 Acre Woods in SE
Tennessee.
Cable might come in the next hundred years, and I am not going to cut
down 100's of trees to get a view of the southern sky.
