These days in the U.S. if you can afford to attend a university in the first
place, any high-end calculator is a pretty inexpensive purchase -- on par with
the price of a lot of text books these days!

Universities are pretty much affordable around here comparing to those
in the US, many are free (public), but it´s a completely different
education system (and completely different society as well!).
HP50g cost is 4 times the most expensive book I´ve ever purchased :).
