Yes, It also encountered this weird behaviour of the 35s.

ACK. Has there been any other HP before that required a mantissa and did
not assume 1 if none was entered?

I also wish that you could enter proper fraction by pressing the
decimal point twice as some calculators allow (e.g., for 2/3 you enter "2 . .
3" -- the 35s makes you enter "0 . 2 . 3" -- no more keystrokes,

In your example I count one additional keystroke (4 vs. 5), but the
first zero is not required. Simply type . 2 . 3 and you're done.
