First of all, the emulator from 'hrastprogrammer' is a real emulator
down to the CPU level, which means even synthetic programs may work,
and you can have virtual plug-in modules, like Math, Advantage Pac, and so
on.
The 82210A HP-41CV Emulator card is more like a simulator,
at least at the user level, although binaries from a real HP-41CV
(without synthetics) will work, as the FOCAL execution engine is compatible.
The 82210A is very flexible and extensible, and even programmable.
However, it's meant for the SX.
I am one of the people who say that the original 82210A won't work well on
the GX.
The user interface will start, and you can do some basic keypresses,
but that's all. Many of the more advanced functions definately will *not*
work when using the card in a GX. The program will simply crash.
Anyone telling that it will work reliably on a GX simply has no clue,
and/or not used any 82210A functions other than '+' or '-' ;-)
There was a cracked and patched version of the 82210A software for the
GX floating around for some time, but even that version was a dirty hack,
and can't be recommended.
The original 82210A software uses various system entries
which are different between the SX and GX,
and even the cracked version did only replace (about) two of them.
So it depends on your needs.
If you want a simple four-banger on the HP-48GX,
you could use the card (which I don't recommend),
if you want a full-featured, but resource-hungry emulation,
you should go for the program by 'hrastprogrammer' .
OTOH, the HP-48 has a *very* powerful user interface.
Once you are used to the different (unlimited) stack,
you may not want to miss it in the futture;-)
For more info on usage and feature differences between
the HP-41 and HP-48 please take a look at www.hpcalc.org .
