Re: ricoh printer on mpe

I had a ricoh hooked at one point in Primary Health in Boise Idaho.
There is something that needs to be set off in the printer configuration
file in pub sys. I cannot remember the setting.

The printer worked fine. If someone could post all those parameters.
I might remember.

Sorry

John,

Regardless of the printer make and model, it is best to be to be HP
JetDirect capable to print from an MPE system. To see if that is the
case,
for the first step, I would make sure you can ping the printer. If you
can,
then try to telnet to the printer on port 9100. To see what it is like
when
it is successful, do the ping and telnet to a printer that you have
working
first.

If you are pinging/telneting from a PC, go to the command (CMD) prompt.
The
commands are:

ping 192.168.2.117
telnet 192.168.2.117 9100

If from your MPE system, the following commands should work:

ping.net "192.168.2.117"
telnet.arpa "192.168.2.117 9100"

(I hope I have the syntax correct.)

If you can't ping it, don't bother trying to telnet. (Unless for some
reason it is behind a firewall and you have ICMP blocked.) In addition
to
trying to telnet on port 9100, you may want to try 515. Port 515 is
used by
Unix for lpr/lpd printing. If you can't get the printer to listen on
9100,
you can use a third party network printing solution (like RAC or Quest)
to
print to lpr/lpd format printers (along with a lot of other features.)

Good luck,
