Thanks for the suggestions, Gehan:
I did go to the Enterprise Manager (that's where I got the error from)
because I was trying to see if I could start SS2K after I got it
installed.
As for access rights and passwords, I loaded with defaults (it took my
PC name), and left the passwords blank. I can't imagine that I, as the
only user on my laptop, wouldn't have access to software I loaded, but I
may be wrong. I tried a few different versions of install, but nothing
worked (and it was getting late).
It's really frustrating me because, as usual, something that was
supposed to be straight forward (according to the text book and the
instructor) doesn't work, so I have to grind through MS
errors/issues/features to get to where I need to be (ok, just blowing
off some steam, here).
Thanks,
Raymond Shahan

I may be going in the wrong direction here but I take it that you did
install the software and the actual error is when you try to access a
database. The error your reporting is usually associated with the sql
server not being started. Look for the (forgive my memory) enterprise
manager or service manager in your start menu and make sure the sql is
started.
If it is started then check your configs for the server and make sure
you have access to the database and your connecting with the correct
username and password...

Hi all (please forgive the non-hp3k question):taught
I'm taking a night class in SQL programming, and it's
using SQL Server 2000. I tried to load SS2K on both my PC and myon
laptop, but it failed (as usual when I try to do something in MS). I
keep getting the message "SQL Server does not exist or access denied"
when I try to access the sample DB.
Both my PC and laptop have XP (SP2 installed), so I went
over to the MS home page, and I can't see that SS2K is actuallybox?
supported on XP - does anyone know if you can run SS 2000 on an XP
