Remember MPE user passwords aren't case sensitive and don't allow special chars so you're restricted to alpha-numeric.

As for the user changing them for this to happen they'll need access to

you have ? Maybe you could include an option within that to allow the

A simple solution that I have seen

Have a job that runs as manager.sys that reads a message file that contains user,account,newpassword and issues the CI ALTUSER command, you can even get it to do a Tell to the user.account that their new password is now active.

Write a simple program or you can probably even use a CI command file that the user can run that gets their logon user and account var values and then prompts them for a new password, if you write a little program you could add validation rules, then just write the user,account,newpassword to the message file, then next time they logon...
