Ray, you are very correct. I am watching some of the reporting on WWLtv.com
and Foxnews.com. The devastation is horrible. Some of the pictures and the
videos bring tears to my eyes. Mississippi has been hit very hard as well,
in fact even harder than Louisiana. They say there are areas that are
simply... gone.

Hi all,
Just a reminder that the hp-whatever-show in New Orleans is of
no consequence. There are people in the stricken areas whose homes,
possessions and family members are devastated, or worse, lost.
Let's just try to remember that as we discuss...I, for one, am
horrified at what's happened.
May we all be blessed enough to concern ourselves with the loss
of a seminar vs. the loss of lives.
Best regards,
Ray Shahan

WWL TV, out of New Orleans has just reported on its web site
(www.wwltv.com)
that 2 different levee breaches are currently flooding the city. They
also
report that Jefferson Parish (where New Orleans is located) is now under
Marshal Law. (I suspect they mean Martial Law.) At any rate, no one is
allowed to enter New Orleans at the moment.

Hello Friends:
Wirt points out, quite rightly, that the impact of Katrina looks like
it might have dealt a setback to the Sept. 12 start of the HP
Technology Forum.
We've updated our blog entry to include the latest from the
conference organizers -- telling us they'll decide by Friday if the
show is still on -- and dire reports from Louisiana officials about
snakes, no gasoline and the "wilderness" that is New Orleans tonight:
<http://3000newswire.com/blog>
I had booked my ticket just when Katrina was still battering the
city. On Southwest, so it's easily moved. A minor inconvenience,
compared to getting fresh water or power in New Orleans tonight. One
report said it will be a month before all parts of the city have
power restored. At best, you could say today's hurricane path was a
very near miss.
Keep an eye on our blog for more details. A few dozen of us HP 3000
folk are booked to go there. Nature might have a different itinerary
for us.
