Interesting.
without bashing the US as a few always think,
why are European cars or Japanese cars in Europe so better in gas-mileage?
There are several with 40-50 MPG or even more. specially diesel.
-----------------
Supply and Demand, the free market. When products get expensive the
market reacts. Fuel was always expensive in Europe, thus people found
ways to economize. Same thing is happenign here as people start getting
interested in hybrids, which get even better than 40-50 MPG.
-----------------
Question:
Why were we (humans) able to make computers so much more efficient while we
failed on automobiles in 100 yrs? We did better on airplanes then we did
with cars?
Wondering what's in the stock-portfolio of the oil-industry.

One reason is that information is an abstract quantity and thus it is
possible to manipulate it with small amounts of energy. Moving people
from one place to another has a minimum energy cost, and it it not
possible to reduce that beyond what it costs at 100% effeciency.
