Listed below are steps that can be taken to resolve scanner
issues:
a.. Make sure the scanner is correctly connected and latched
to the printer. To verify that the scanner is installed, print a
self-test page. On the lower left-hand corner of the self-test
page, the text will read: "Scanner Installed: Yes. ?? If the
text reads "No " instead, power off (unplug) the product and
reattach the scanner. Power on (plug-in) the product and print
another self-test page to see if the printer recognizes the
scanner.
CAUTION: To prevent damage, unplug the printer before
checking the scanner connection.
b.. The product may not share a parallel port. If a sound
card, external hard drive, or network switchbox is connected to
the same parallel port as the product, the other devices may be
interfering. The other devices must be removed in order to
connect and use the HP LaserJet 1100 series product or two
parallel ports must be installed on the computer.
c.. Download and install the latest software version from the
HP Web site.
NOTE: Parts for HP LaserJet series printers can be
obtained from HP Parts store at http://www.hp.com/buy/parts.
d.. Verify that the original is loaded correctly: narrow side
first, top down in the scanner paper input tray, with the
side-to-be scanned facing forward. Make sure that there is copy
functionality. If no copy comes out or the scanner does nothing,
check to see if the paper is loaded in the printer paper input
tray.
e.. Check to see if the HP LaserJet 1100 series product is
loaded in the Programs group.
f.. Check for other scanning software.
g.. Remove the printer from any pass-through device such as a
surge protector, power strip or extension cord. If the printer
is not directly connected to the power source, it may not be
receiving enough power to correctly operate.
h.. Make sure that the printer parallel cable is working and
connected correctly.
i.. Disconnect and then reconnect the parallel cable.
j.. Try printing a print job that has successfully printed
before.
k.. If possible, attach the cable and printer to another PC
and print a job that has successfully printed before.
l.. Try using a new IEEE-1284 compliant parallel cable.
m.. If there is another parallel port available, try attaching
the parallel cable to the other port. Make sure that an SPP-
(bidirectional) or ECP-compliant parallel port is on the
computer. An SPP parallel port is the minimum; and ECP parallel
port is strongly recommended. Check the port mode and change it
if necessary.
n.. If acquiring an image from another device, such as a
digital camera or another scanner, make sure the other device is
TWAIN compliant. Non-Twain-compliant devices do not work with
the product software. Check for other TWAIN software that may be
in conflict with the product software.
o.. Check for TSRs, and other devices that may be conflicting,
look in the C:\WINDOWS\WIN.INI and C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM.INI files.
p.. If a print or copy job was sent before attempting to scan,
the scan will occur after the other job is finished."
