HP C7280 Scan Startup Causes "HP CUE--Scanning Flow Component Is Not Responding"

Vista Ultimate 64-bit; HP Photosmart C7280 All-in-One.

From HP Solutions Center when I attempt a Scanning a photo or document
I get the HP Scanning splash screen with a 'busy circle' mouse when
hovering on splash screen. If I click on the splash screen I get a
Microsoft Windows window with: "HP CUE--Scanning Flow Component is not
responding." ...with choices to close or continue to wait. ALL other
All-in-One printer functions work okay.

Up to 2 or 3 days ago Scanning was working great--I assume with the
same file missing as mentioned below. Two or three days ago I started
'fiddling' trying to get the system to start up faster and figure out
a way to configure the printer to run only on demand and when not
running have fewer assets loaded in background. This somehow was the
Scanner's undoing.

Uninstalled entire software package for printer and then reinstalled a
"newer" online full install version for Vista 64-bit. This had no
effects on the problem at all. Scanner loading hangs while all other
functions still work fine.

Some Google research revealed verifying and/or adding a missing
Registry line. I didn't find the line and haven't attempted adding
the missing line. Not certain it pertains to my 64-bit configuration.

Another Google revealed finding a HP \bin\ executable 'hpqdstcp.exe'
and clicking on it. I found this file and executed it but this did
not fix the problem.

Talked to HP who immediately wanted to take control of computer and
fiddle around with it. Refusing that led me to search for another
executable file in the same HP \bin\ folder called 'hpqscnvw.exe'.
Neither a physical search in the folder nor a Vista file search found
it present anywhere in C:\ or the original HP install CD.

HP refused to look in or do anything in the Registry. They had no
explanation of why this .exe was missing either. And the tech was
unwilling or unable to switch me to a higher level support.

He suggested I download the full install for the C6380 printer because
it was version 12 and installing only the HP Solution Center and HP
Digital Imaging Monitor--which I haven't done yet and leaves me where
I am.

I am looking for a resolution to fixing a Registry key and/or finding
the missing file and restoring it... or whatever someone here might
see to do?

Last resort will be installing the version 12 software as described
above.

Help!

Thank you.
