Hallo Jez T,
Hooi Ruud,
Do it on the DL380 from floppy.
My DL380 recognised the SA3200 (W2003) W/O any problem. No driver
needed.
I think I was talking Firmware - not Driver. I was thinking about how you
would update the Firmware of an SA3200 on a non-proliant server.
RAID 6? Why???
Use RAID 5 and keep the extra drive as a spare. (or is that a typo?)
RAID5 uses x drives plus one that can go bad on-the-fly. But if a
seond one goes bad before the first one is replaced and initialised,
you have a problem. RAID6 gives you two drives as replacement.
RAID 6 chugs
RAID 5 is faster
RAID is Redundancy technology - to keep you up and running - it's not backup
technology. So you'll notice a failed disk when you do your daily backup.
The chances of 2 disks failing within 24 hours are sufficiently remote to be
able to assume that you have a problem elsewhere, in which case you're going
to be glad you had that backup.
So in practice, RAID 6 is unlikely to make your situation any better than it
is already, other than using up an extra disk and slowing the disk subsystem
down.
