Using Event Viewer
Event Viewer maintains logs about program, security, and system events on your computer. You can use Event Viewer to view and manage the event logs, gather information about hardware and software problems, and monitor Windows security events.
Open Event Viewer.
Notes
a.. To open Event Viewer, click Start, click Control Panel, double-click Administrative Tools, and then double-click Event Viewer.
b.. For information about using Event Viewer, in Event Viewer, on the Action menu, click Help.
c.. For more information, click Related Topics.

Thanks for the detailed information. I can't wait to test it on the Depressed Pavilion Notebook for the diagnosis (but I've got to wait till the next time that I see the friend of mine who's the owner...)
By the way, when the pc start crying in the middle of the night, shouldn't it be turned off? Why should it wake up for any reason, if it isn't connected to a lan or anything else? Well, this is just my reasoning for now, but soon I will see if the Event Viewer says anything about any perceived stimulation during the notebook (expected) sleep...
Bye for now - and thanks again
