Hello,
I am writing this post to explore the possibility of starting some
scientific project that I am involved in. In a very few words: we are
going to established essential bioinformatics service for university
and public use, as well. The core of the service has to be composed of
huge bioinformatics databases, a collection of applications and
publications which are together the key tools for bioinformatics
researches and development. At this stage, we have assured network
infrastructure for our project, at University Computer Center. We have
also assured rights to mirror the first database: DBTSS (Database of
Transcriptional Start Sites) by University of Tokyo. Well, we need a
multiway, high performance system for our project. Unfortunately, we
cannot obtain sufficient grant at this time and therefore we cannot buy
a brand new server immediately. Well, some day I hit on an idea to buy
some used, refurbished server at low price on eBay but we cannot do it
because of law restrictions - the university is prohibited from buying
used devices. Actually, the last chance to start our service promptly
is to obtain some sponsored server. Well, if You or Your organization
are able to support us with some used multiway machine like Proliant
DL580 (4 x PIII Xeon 700+ Mhz CPU), HP 9000 N4000(4+ PA-RISC 360+ MHz
CPU), RS/6000(4+ PowerPC3+ 375Mhz CPU), etc. with or without the
storage, we would be very grateful. Moreover, I suppose I would cover
postage from my private funds in that situation. Let me know if you
have any idea or advice for me. Thank You for Your time. Have a nice
day!
