HP PSC 1410 keeps printing test sheets

A firend has a HP PSC 1410 printer. SHe just changed the ink
cartridges in it (both). Now, if she turns it off and then back on, it
instantly prints out a test *** everytime, even with the pc off. It
prints fine after that, but it is wasting all of the ink. Any ideas?
