XE783 Power Supply 3-Pin FAN-C Connector

My HP XE783 computer is completely dead. I am thinking the problem is
with the power supply. It has a 3-pin connector (black blue black
wires)going to the motherboard and the connector is labelled FAN-C.
OEM power supplies do not have this connector. I am wondering if the
OEM supply without this FAN-C connection will work. Other information
indicates that this is the power connection for the CPU Fan. Does
anyone actually KNOW what this is for and if a power supply without it
will work ?
Thanks.
