First thing I would do is run the hard drive manufacturer's diagnostics, which
will tell clearly if the drive is going south. If the drive is made by Toshiba,
then use the Hitachi/IBM Drive Fitness Test.
If the drive is failing, you have to ask yourself whether your personal data and
files are worth attempting to recover... Ben Myers
