Here is something else to try. It may work for this printer, as it has on
several other models of HP printer.
Install a second black-and-white only DeskJet driver on the same port as the one
to which the printer is connected. You may have to install it first connected
to LPT1, then switch the printer to the presumed USB port to which the PSC1210
is attached. In the past, I have used the DeskJet 600 monochrome driver, which
is built into Windows XP and readily available for other versions of Windows.
Do not print a test page initially. Do so only after switching the printer's
port.
This approach works because the PSC devices have a printer control language
derived originally from earlier DeskJets.
