I have been successfully running the above software with a C64
connected to a Unix (AIX 4.3.3) server through a Turbo232 cartridge
and a null-modem cable.

I just built a new Linux server and have set up the same connections,
but cannot get Hyperlink to load properly.  I have downloaded and
unpacked the file using gunzip and burned a floppy using Star
Commander.

The disk appears to configure properly, but when I enter:

LOAD "CWI", 8, 1 <ENTER>

......the program appears to load and then returns to a blue screen
with a READY and a flashing cursor, but when I type RUN and hit enter,
nothing happens......

Any ideas?

Dumb question: do you have the disk that you were "successfully
running" with?
Or no? If you still have it and teh kittehs have not chewed it, have
you tried it?

Hi Tarkin......

(I have 11 dogs and only 1 cat....she doesn't have access to my
disks:-)

I had archived my "working" disk so I burned it to a floppy and tried
it also......

......got exactly the same result.  Also, if I load the Register
program, it say it appears that I don't have a valid Hyperlink disk
with either of the disks I made.

I am still looking for a place to be looking......

k. Dunno much about hyperlink, but I know a little
about troubleshooting.

Rule #1) Do not talk about troubleshooting.

NO, I mean, rule out the obvious and/or dumb.

So, dumb question #2: Still got the AIX server?
And you you tried to connect to it with either
of the disks you willing to risk?
If not, got any other vintage boxen
(another 64, KayproII, Win98 Pentium...)?
(confirms disks are good).

Other dumb things that bite me:
* cables
* bios settings
* loose connections

Things that pwn Linux serial connections:
* incorrect inittab settings
* incorrect use of stty
* PnP
* kernel modules

Other dumb idea:
* get crack/dupe software, really good stuff
that will duplicate, bit-for-bit, your
working copy.

Hi Tarkin.........

While attending Electronics Fundamentals at Keesler AFB in 1951, I
quickly learned that the most effective (while not the most efficient)
method of troubleshooting was substitution.

Right now I am reinstalling AIX 4.3.3 on my RS/6000 machine that
worked so well before......and then give it another go.......

I know the cable is good also.....

2 down and a lot more to go.........

Thanks for the tips.......
