I am thinking of starting a little project; to run a line from the C64
keyboard into a 2 button joy stick so I can wire the second button up as
a spacebar press.
Has anyone done anything similar? I'm looking for the pinouts for the
C64 keyboard connector plug so I can tap it for the space bar.
That's something I wanted to have a go at in the past, although I don't
have the motivation to even think about it now.
What would be even better would be to add a third button for an extra
key, say for the cloak in Dropzone.
That would be the ultimate joystick for Dropzone for sure :-)
Very big shame Atari never included two or even three extra buttons as
standard in their joysticks back in the 1970s.
think of a nice generic solution as to what to map the third button to.
I did a feasibility check last night. Connecting pints 20 and 8 on the
keyboard connector cause a space bar press. All I need now are a headphone
jack for the side of the C64 and some nice cabling from the joystick. I'm a
little annoyed because I threw out some old josytick wiring that would have
been perfect for this when I moved house recently.
