Ummmm, upgrade ROM?? I'll have to see what's in it, but I do know for
sure that it DON'T HAVE JIFFY DOS! I already checked it for that and
got a CBM DOS message of some sort. Which chip do you need in it so I
can check it out and let you know.

The 1581 has had two ROM offical (released) versions:

It is a simple matter to open the 1581 and check the ROM marking on
the particular chip.

While you have it open, look at the WDC controller chip and note if
it's a WD1770 or WD1772. A WD1770 is preferable.

I would ***very strongly suggest*** that you consider "free shipping"
if you're asking $150. One, you're selling to a fellow comp.sys.cbm
member, not some flake on Ebay (with the associated selling fees,
collection headaches, etc). Two, what few 1581s that sell on Ebay,
that manage to go over $125, are either JiffyDOS equipped or are sold
by a known reputable Commodore collector (with manual, box, demo disk,
transit protector, etc). Three, Joe is a long-time comp.sys.cbm
associate, and he would bend over backward to do something for another
person for "cost of shipping only" or as cheaply as he could. I know,
he did for me when I was a newbie to this group. Four, there IS such a
thing as an "Instant 1581", where one only needs the floppy drive
mechanism, everything else is in the kit, and Joe can obtain that for
well under the $150 you're asking. It's from http://www.jppbm.com/ The
same website offers a 1581, refurbished, for CAN$75 (approx US$68.25)
plus shipping -- less than half the price that you're asking.
