The Commodore is probably going to lead to very little. The thing is, most
stuff written with the keyboard for online communication was never stored on
disks. The disks are mostly going to be Commodore games and pirate ware
which will amount to nothing.
Back in the old days, criminals like this communicated online via BBSs and
Q-Link.... which none of the live communication was stored on the C=
computers. Given the nature and time frame of the crime.... it is a moot
point.
Maybe, someone should email the General guy of this Austrian form of FBI. We
can assist them on analyzing the disks - even using Di-Sector will help
solve the matter.
I doubt the guy was heavily involved in advance programming.... but we can
find out. Can someone provide us an address to communicate with the guys.
The C= community can help analyze this....
I would think the disks are going to amount to nothing but it can.... If
this is involved with telecommunications and buffer capturing was performed,
they can receive the data and be able to read the text files pretty easily.
Main thing is that the text be in reverse case.
Commodore in PETSCII ----> cOMMODORE IN ascii
Most telecommunication software in those day and age had simply stored the
stuff as SEQ files in PETSCII if the program happened to support buffer
capturing. Earlier it gets, the less chance of it and everything written in
telecommunication in those days is probably lost in digital history. The
Commodore stuff is probably a hobby and may have little to nothing. It is
said that she was held captive for 8.5 years. This puts his sw line upto
around mid-90s. This can mean something.... the key question is, was the
comp. all hooked up or was in in a closet or garage collecting dust. We have
all the sw needed to deal with this guy.
If he has all the software, his own software can be the downfall but it is
moot now. The criminal is dead.
The girl is no longer captive and lets see.......
Maj. Gen. Gerhard Lang of the Federal Criminal Investigations Bureau should
at least check here. Can someone contact them.
I feel the C64 may amount to nothing.

BTW, why should they actually transfer the data anywhere? Did the guy
smash his C64 before committing suicide or what? If not, they should have
all the needed equipment to examine all floppies and/or cassettes.
Maybe they want to store the data in a way that is compatible with their
current equipment? Analyze text documents with modern software they know
and which is much more capable instead of working with a system they
don't
know very well? Add transcripts to their (paper) files, so they need to
format and print out stuff in a modern text processor? and so on.
If there actually is anything else but tons of *pirated software*, which
of course is another terrible crime as well... ;)
