Well sometimes a news server does not get all the parts at the same time
so it is always good to check and make sure. The only times I have had
problems with binaries combining as txt is when I am missing at part
somewhere. I just reposted it breaking it up into 18 parts. See if
that works better.
Thanks for the scans!
I think the problem is that it was not a proper multipart posting. It
was just a MIME message that was split into 18 parts. My usual binary
decoder (uudeview on Linux, very reliable) discarded everything but part
one and complained about "missing boundaries". After I manually joined
all parts (trimming out the headers) into one file, it decoded fine.
I took the liberty of putting the zip file on a web server:
http://gallium.prg.dtu.dk/~lbn/heart_of_africa_map.zip
In fact, putting it on a website from the get-go would probably have
been a lot easier, not only for the downloaders ;-)
If you don't have webspace of your own, there are sites that, at the
cost of annoying pop-up banners, offer free hosting for small files:
http://www.rapidshare.de/
http://www.imageshack.us/ (for hosting the jpegs directly)
and _lots_ more like these (bandwidth is cheap nowadays it seems), but
those are the only two I have ever tried.

Your welcome, and yes I agree in hindsight it would have been easier.
But I never would have imagined people having that much trouble combing
and decoding the post. I don't know why it was not a proper mulitpart
posting, my reader should have split it properly. And it did combine
fine for me (I tested after posting downloading all the parts, combining
them, seeing if I could get the original zip, and I could every time).
Very strange.
