Well, if you're asking how to get machine language code into the drive,
then I'll take it that you don't know how to set the drive up to be
able to do the tasks you mentioned such as half tracks, which in turn
means that you have a very long way to go to learn this stuff.
Not that its impossible to learn, but its going to be a lengthy topic,
and something best served by books - not newsgroup threads, unless its
a specific task you're looking to solve. I would suggest starting with
"Inside Commodore DOS" and "Anatomy of the 1541". Those are good books
to kickstart your learning.
If you're good are reading ML, then you could disassemble copy programs
like Maverick (or whatever your favorite copy program is) to see how it
sets up the drive, the machine code it sends, and how the drive
responds.
