Discovery cartridge usage problems

I'm trying to back up a copy-protected floppy using my Discovery
cartridge on a MegaSTe (yes, I know -I've set it to 8MHz/no cache),
but when trying to read the disk I get the following error message:

ERROR, source disk drive RPM too slow.

Does this error message mean that my actual floppy disk drive is
malfunctioning, or is it just something that pops up whenever the
Discovery software can't figure out the disk?
