nothing works. if there is another atari basic emulator i can load &

You have to get the ROMs for this version.
(ATARIXL.ROM ATARIOSB.ROM ATARIBAS.ROM) and put them in a ROMS directory.
Since you have XFORMER emulator, you have the
ROMs.

(I recommend 3.1 rather that 4.0)
