You gotta have loaded a DOS when you booted.
The two most common are FTe/Sparta and MyDOS.
Even the H: device Thomas mentions will still need a DOS loaded.
You have booted with BASIC enabled, so after you write your program, at the
READY prompt type:
SAVE "D:PROG.BAS"
where 'D:" is drive one (you can say "D2:xxx" for drive 2)
or "H:" for the virtual drive.
If you have run the emulator without a DOS, there is no way to save the
program to 'disk' (ATR image).
