In my opinion, they did not have fans to begin with. That leads me to

should
be fine without any extra cooling. Now, if you were going to run the
floppy
drive constantly maybe a fan would be in order. However, it does have a
very large heat sink, and the transformer is in the power pack, not the
drive itsself. I would say you would be ok.

As these drives are getting old now, is it worth arranging extra cooling,
would it be possible to run a small 40mm fan from the intrenal power
without causing problems ? Where would you take the power from ? Any
thoughts? ideas? not worth the bother?
thanks
I would have to agree with Docrotcod. The 1050 drives really don't get
that warm, and typical 1050 failures are not heat related. In all
likelihood, if your 1050 drive is going to fail, all the cooling in the
world would not prevent the failure from occurring.
The Rana drives on the other hand, get quite warm. I had a Rana 1000 for a
spell, and parts of it would get too hot to even touch. If you're leaving
a Rana drive powered on for extended periods of time, cooling might be a
good idea. But like somebody already mentioned, a simple table fan would
be more than sufficient to provide adequate air circulation and cooling.
Now, to go off-topic, I just noticed that Docrotcod is Doctor COD in
reverse. Like a doctor that demands cash on delivery. ;)
