And if you have an old car in the back yard, that you never use, and that's not worth much to anybody, would you not appreciate it, if somebody asks if he or she might take it of your hands, instead of just taking it without asking?
Depends, if it was my defunct 1985 VW they would be doing me a favor. If it is one of my vintage motorcyles that I am actively working on, there would be trouble.
Even if you would be glad if somebody toke it off your hands, you'ld probably like it if they would ask first. I would.

This has gone completely beyond that IMO. I am probably the #1 advocate of intellectual property rights in the group. Lance does have some rights, just not the blanket ones he claims. I was kind of offended in a way I haven't been since the Derek 'you are all thieves' tirades.
It's more like Lance is saying ~I had some work done on SD so now I own all the rights to that version and then fires off a preemptive threat. What he would own the rights to is the added code. He can argue you have to remove his code from that version of SD, but that is it.
Another car analogy, I let you use my car, you put an new air filter on it and say you now own it.
The funny part is that this 'car' in question has less value then my busted VW: A derivative work of a freeware OS for use with an obsolete concept, the bbs. I only mention this because there are still people with valid business models out there for making at least enough money to cover their Atari habit. Ape for Windows, Atarimax, SIO2PC cable makers, etcetera come to mind for a way to advance the art and make a couple of buck$.
