Re: HDFMTPH versions for Atari 8-bit hard drives

Hey,

Not sure if this will help ya.

But do you have the SpartaDOS ToolKit?

If so, there are two programs that might help with the bad sectors.
CLEANUP and DISKRX. I know that one of these if not both will go thru
your hard drive and allow you to mark Bad Sectors so that they don't get
used.

It does seem that alot of older harddrives will have some BadSectors.
Modern Software markes them as bad automatically IIRC. so that you don;t
run into trouble with them after you start filling the drive with
software.

Now CLEANUP and DISKRX does this. Even if you have software already on
the drive. I have used these in the past on my hard drives to mark bad
sectors.

One problem is that if you already have alot of software on the drive
and mark
the bad sectors. They can screwup a few programs or directories so you
might
want to back up your software before you do this on a fairly full hard
drive.

On a new hard drive, Marking the bad sectors to not use is what ya need
to do
to prevent problems. Unless you have tons of them. If thats the case
then something
isn't right. The drive is very bad or not formatted correctly.

This is correct to the best of my knowledge.
Please correct me if I am wrong.
