Many formerly commercial products for the Apple II written in the States are considered abandonware. Many sites such as others have mentioned will post them until a C&D order is received. More often than not people will contact the authors and persuade them to make their software available as public domain or freeware. OTOH, many of the originally freeware pieces of software are very good.

In your search you may want to take a look at emulator sites such as virtualapple.org. No point in having an emulator if there is no software...
