sit in the attic and do it qiuetly, putting the data "somewhere else"
where I can get to it from one of the PCs or Macs in the house. That
would take some hardware as well as software... Since I'd use the
16-pin joystick port to read the data, what would be the smart/cool
way to do 1-way, write-only data output to another computer?
Ideally I'd like to blast it over ethernet so one of the already
LAN-connected computers can get it.
I wouldn't mind sending the data out of the modem or printer port
using any protocol to one of the LAN computers.
I wouldn't mind using some kind of Gatorbox-ish thing either.
Anything.
port) would probably end up being tethered with a shorter max-cable
length. Ethernet with an Uther card (another run is in the works) or
a Gatorbox would likely be more expensive. Either way, you'd need to
cook up a thrower/catcher software arrangement between the GS and the
"other" box with a protocol wrapper. I can imagine a system where
data were buffered during periods of non-connection, and
acknowledgments would clear out the buffered data.
I suppose writing a Contiki app would be a possibility, with more
conventional TCP/IP protocols/data transfer mechanisms within easy
reach.
It would be a fun programming exercise whichever way you ended up
going... it all kind of depends on what equipment you have on hand or
want to invest in, plus what kind of software development work you
want to do.
