Sounds like we don't exactly know what we've got on the other
end. :-) There's a chance you've got 2 null modems in there - making
it straight-through. Can you try without the explicit null modem in
the middle? You may be using a "printer" cable, which does the same
thing.

I run the adtpro software (latest version, downloaded it today), put
in the IN#2, then hit CTRL-A, and put 14B (which doesn't show, but the
cursor changes back from the ? to the *.

That's normal. Except for the "*" part... you do mean "]", don't you?

So, when I send the prodos, nothing appears on the GS screen like it
shows on the video.

Most likely a cabling problem, as you suspect.

Is that a logical assumption? I know the video has an 2e and SSC
card, but i figured the display stuff would be the same.

Yes, the display stuff should be just about the same. You don't get
the "SSC" thing after the Ctrl-A, but instead you get the "?" prompt.
Otherwise things are the same.

But the vid doesn't use a null modem adaptor, even though the
instructions say to do it.

The video shows a SSC adapter with the jumper block pointing towards
"Terminal," which provides an internal null modem. That isn't
possible on a GS.

Can I use like one of the laplink cables instead? I have a couple
that have both 9 pin and 25 pin connectors on each end, and I'm pretty
sure it's wired in Null Modem configeration.

No harm in trying.

Okay, thanks. Ends up it was a parallel cable, took off the null
modem adaptor, and worked!

What i meant by the * was the cursor prompt. Maybe * wasn't the right
char, since i see the * in the download seems to be different, it just
looked like it while it was in ctrl-a mode.

thanks

Since I don't have a SSC, I have to use the modem port.

That Mini-DIN-8 to DE-9F adapter is probably an old MacPlus to Mac128
adapter (the MacPlus was the first Mac to use the Mini-DIN sockets and
many people still had devices that plugged into a Mac 128/512) and
does not have the same pinout as a PC serial port. Do you have a part
number embossed on that cable?

I have 2 different of those cables (probably have more, I have boxes
of various computer cables), the one works fine, since it was the
extra nullmodem problem. thanks for the reply. oh, there isn't any
identifying numbers on it, of course. =)
