The NTSC IIe takes a standard 2732 CharGen while the PAL IIe takes a

Or if you want to use a NTSC mainboard in a PAL case and keep the
switchable font + keyboard.

But you are right, I got it mixed up insofar as it isn't necessary for
the "normal" case
