Have you actually priced Mac products lately? They're fairly comparable
to brand name PC products that are similarly equipped. I've at various
times with Dell gotten high end Apple products from $200 more to $200
less. (Just don't spend the money on the dealer's RAM...)

Now PC's definitely win on the low end, but that's definitely a stripped
machine.

The "low-midrange" desktop these days is a 3GHz HT Pentium, 1GB,
dual-layer universal DVD writer, 128MB video card, 200GB SATA, and
it's about $1000.

Lessee. I just configured one of those (a Dimension 5150 with 250GB
SATA) on the Dell site, $1049. The cheapest Intel iMac is $1374 with
the same drive. It has a dual-core processor, a digital monitor (I
configured the Dell with analog), and a real OS (I gave Dell Windows XP
home -- to go to XP Pro is $150 right there). And it ships for free
(add $24 to the Dell).

So, you're right that you can get less by paying less with Windows-based
systems. But you _are_ definitely getting less.
