I remember from back in the day that there was a way to build up nearly
an infinite amount of lives. I can't remember the exact details.
Something like leaving one crystial on one of the early levels and then
just killing each new baddie as they emerge. I remember me and my
brother built up 99 lives, then saved the game off so that we could
start from that point any time we wanted to.

It's a fairly well known cheat, and unfortunately pretty much ruins the
game once you know it....
