i was told the older versions of the transwarp gs (not sure but there was
some diff in the cards in the later runs..they streamlined the beasts or
some such...)
i was told they were better with the 14mhz upgrade...i had one of the older
or 1st ones made..twgs and the problem is the older ones you had to look for
some specific chips...so IF you had and older run model (for some reason
...thicker pcb card or whatever reason it was...better chip source...no idea)
anyway for some reason if you had that older version of the rev D card ...
or maybe even a Rev C with the proper newest chips/eproms you could run on
that version of card...you could get a stable 14mhz out of the beast
its coming back to me i think the newer (or bigger run of boards version
D's ) they streamlined there mnfg process...and sandwiched more traces on
the board or some change..and they were a bit ..i wanna say noiser .but
thats not right..anyway...people with those versions usually got about
10-12mhz...
anyway i remember at the time there was a scramble to just upgrade these
older versions with whatever max'd chip/eprom pals or whatever it was they
were swaping out at the time
for that reason from my experience ( ran lost gonzo bbs on a Rev C board
with the latest/best side chips avail whatever they were...at the time and
it ran at a 24/7 14mhz rate according to a pda speed prog i tested it with
on an apple //gs on the bbs from jan 1991 till sept 2003...(run it with an
outside setup power supply for heat issues that also helped)
the Zip GS accelerator if i remember came out after the twgs and those and
the later twgs cards i think shared this newer sandwiched or some mnfg
isssue i can't remember..so for whatever reason were slower and less stable
(anyway that was about as clear as mud..but that is all i can dig out from
my befuddled brain..i just remeber other apple // bbs sysops making me read
off the chips on my rev C and rev D twgs's and giving me crap about being a
Lucky A**hole cause i had a setup that could give me that speed stable..i of
course was somewhat pleased with myself but had no idea what they were
talking about)
there might be more info on this stuff in the apple // comp.sys. FAQ or at
least links to such
(rambles off ...the minds going....slipping.........slipping...to much
windows ....apple ii stuff slips away...sigh)

(hey..an WOZ..i'm still waiting on that Apple // museum thingy in my prev
post..all of us here certainly have enough crap...we need some place to set
it up ..show it off (with a tasteful brass plaque on the side with our bona
fides of course)
(wait...i see pigs flying......)
