No, not if you have a stolen serialnumber, wich many people have.

huh ? ofcoz I would if I used a serial number that got blocked.

...I could tell you about many scenarios where a firewall is totally
useless, but I can take an example:

You go into a cute webpage with your internet explorer, on that
webpage there is code that IE runs due to one of the holes in it,
that code opens up a tunnel to a hacked machine in russia with
IE on port 80, then a someone log onto that machine and gain access
to your machine, and start to hack pentagon with it.. ..your firewall
did nothing coz it only saw webtraffic on the correct port, originating
from a correct program (IE)

...There have been several similar bugs in IE..

Basically a firewall stops traffic that you want to have, and it still
doesnt make a good protection..

You can use firewalls for two things..

a) As an EXTRA protection
b) To remove "crap traffic" in your network so it doesnt show up in logs.

Have you bought a laptop the last 5 years ? ..you kind of never get any CD
with them anymore.. too expensive I guess.. IBMat least have an option
so that you can boot from the standard install and then create a CD with
all the original drivers and software on it.. But I never seen that on other
brands unfortunatly.

Also since we have a license for all microsoft OS'es we buy the laptops
with cheapest possible version, and then reinstall it with what we want,
usally Linux+XP pro dualbooting.

Btw, did you know that it used to be cheaper to buy a laptop with
windows on it that one with linux on it ? ..thats sick.
