!Help does pass the strings it receives via Message_HelpReply through
OS_GSTrans, but it also does special processing of of occurrences of
character pairs "\T" where "T" is one of a limited number of
characters. These are substituted by longer strings, and are defined
in Resources:$.Resources.Help.Messages. However, most of these will
vary from ROM to ROM, as they are auto-generated in the ROM build
process to optimise the size of the ROM as a whole. The only ones you
can rely on are:

Your explanation and 'only rely on' list is most helpful, thankyou.

The strong implication is that RO wishes to us to use SELECT/ADJUST
rather than <select>/<adjust> or 'select'/'adjust' or Select/Adjust -
despite Steve saying that this latter is 'the RISC OS convention' (from
where, Steve?).

My faulty memory: I was thinking of the strings supplied by !Help, which
as Ben points out, are SELECT/ADJUST.

Either way, my main thought was to stick with the standard texts offered
by Help ("Click SELECT to ", "Move the pointer right to ", etc) where
appropriate: not only does it dramatically reduce the size of your help
texts (in terms of memory required), but it helps to create a uniform feel
to all helpful apps.

Notwithstanding this point, I cannot recall ever seeing the list in
PRMs/Style Guide - and, as it happens, there is no
'Resources:$.Resources.Help' directory in my RO6.10 :-) I found it in
RO4.39 although I have to say that the listing there does not exactly
jump out and grab you as to its purpose in interactive !Help
responses... and why would I look there for it, anyway?

They;re documented in the StrongHelp manuals, but as you say, they don't
seem to be in the PRM.
