system that worked remarkably well in school (so has undergone some
rigorous testing!). I don't think the programmer has done any RISC OS work
for a while so I am trying to get in touch to see if the software can be
made available to us. It was around over ten years ago (running on RiscPCs
to my knowledge) but was not advertised.
Could it provide a simple mechanism to both hide and unhide the iconbar
icons for any tasks while they are running? That I think is the specific
requirement for this software.
I'm trying to remember back to when I experimented most with the software -
which is back 12 years ago. In general use the software was run as the machine
booted and removed icons from the icon bar without leaving a gap. That was
because we wanted to keep areas of the machine hidden from normal access.
Normal access could be achieved by running an 'undo' application that was kept
on a networked machine and only made available to the network when required.
As far as I can remember that would re-implement the icons 'on the fly' but
that was rarely used in practice. Again AFAICR the 'undo' application had to
be set to complement the specific action that had been taken to remove the
icons.
I have managed to find the person who sold us the application and I think it
may be his son who produced the software - so more if and when I get any
further.
NB The software appeared to be produced in-house by one local Acorn dealer and
I never saw it used outside my own school.
