You /ARE/ having a laugh??? None of those are even a patch on StrongED,
let alone Zap.

Curious. Emacs and vi have been the editors of choice for people far
smarter than you and me for many, many years.

The best editor I've found so far was Pepper - and that's no longer
developed and didn't work correctly on the latest OS X versions.
BBEdit is a silly price for a text editor anyway - it's more than
full-blown document processors on RISC OS.

TextWrangler, its little brother, is very capable and is now free.
